Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The National Health System will be reinforced this year, with an additional 25 doctors specializing in General and Family Medicine to provide a more appropriate specialized response to the community, the training coordinator, Cla\u0301udia Tavares Oliveira, announced this Thursday.<\/p>\n

The revelation was made this morning, on the sidelines of the 1st General and Family Medicine Forum that takes place from the 11th to the 13th of this month, in the city of Praia, under the motto \u201cTrain more to care better\u201d, promoted by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Cape Verde Medical Association.<\/p>\n

According to the training coordinator for the General and Family Medicine course, this is a \u201chuge gain\u201d and a \u201cgigantic\u201d step for the health sector and for the country, as it will allow the strengthening of the National Health System once that at the currently the number of these specialists at national level is very low.<\/p>\n

However, he added that, at the moment, the number of doctors in general and family medicine is four or five, but with the completion of the in-service training that took place over two years, it will be possible to have an additional 25 doctors who will be distributed to the respective centers where they work.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey already work in the various health centers, we have them in Praia, Sa\u0303o Nicolau, Sa\u0303o Vicente and Santo Anta\u0303o and I believe that for the next courses with the new classes, more doctors will be trained to provide coverage on the other islands, in order to have coverage for the entire country\u201d, said the person in charge, indicating that by the end of this year, 25 more doctors will be trained.<\/p>\n

He explained that during the two years of in-service training, doctors participated through the online platform, but they also had the opportunity to travel to Portugal for exchange.<\/p>\n

Regarding the forum, which has a partnership with medical specialists and training advisors from the General and Family Medicine (MGF) program in Portugal, he added that it is an opportunity to present and discuss scientific work by trainees, but also to debate central themes in clinical practice of family doctors.<\/p>\n

The event is essentially aimed at graduates of the first class of the MGF specific training program, in practice, but also seeks to involve doctors and other health professionals and students of the integrated master’s degree in medicine at the University of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

The initiative is part of the cooperation protocol for in-service training of specialists in General and Family Medicine between the Ministries of Health of Portugal and Cape Verde signed in 2018.<\/p>\n
