Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>This Thursday, the Independent Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID) asked the Government, in parliament, to adapt maritime transport to the reality of the islands.<\/p>\n

Deputy Anto\u0301nio Monteiro, who spoke during the discussion on the topic \u201cthe blue economy as one of the main vectors of development\u201d, proposed by the UCID, said that it is extremely important to rethink updating the country’s reality and take other measures so that connections are done more frequently and at lower costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe consider that improving logistics operations can play an important role in increasing the competitiveness of this sector, which is why we understand that maritime transport needs another attention, we need to adapt maritime transport in Cape Verde to the realities of the islands\u201d, he reinforced deputy Anto\u0301nio Monteiro.<\/p>\n

According to him, regardless of the Government having undertaken the acquisition of two ships to transfer the company that currently provides this service, he is of the opinion that the conditions are created to adapt the ships to the reality of the islands, \u201cwe will continue to have losses of brutal efficiencies.\u201d<\/p>\n

He cited as an example the issue of Maio Island, in the sense of having daily trips to and from Santiago similar to Santo Anta\u0303o\/Sa\u0303o Vicente.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to frequency, we have the problem of the cost of passenger tickets, freight and vehicle transport fares, we need to adapt the costs to our reality and for companies to earn within what is reasonable to allow the normal functioning of our economy\u201d , stressed the deputy.<\/p>\n

Still during the intervention, the deputy spoke about the activities carried out in the maritime sector, which according to the same source play a \u201ccrucial\u201d role in the economic development of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

For the UCID, it is necessary to significantly increase investments in the program, that is, in training and professional training as key and essential elements to develop qualified work for the maritime sector, namely, ship repair, research and the management of the sector, appointed Anto\u0301nio Monteiro.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also demanded that professional training and higher education in the maritime area should have a different approach and we must think about creating all the conditions so that our young people are actually enticed in practice to seek out this sector so they can make a contribution who understand Cape Verde and the maritime economy\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

He suggested that young people who are interested in higher education at the maritime level undertake this training until there is a market of professionals with a good capacity for professionals in this area, concluded Anto\u0301nio Monteiro.<\/p>\n
