Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Cape Verdean writer Ma\u0301rio Lu\u0301cio Sousa presented his most recent literary work to the Lisbon public, entitled \u201cThe book that wrote me\u201d, speaking about the impact that books can have on the world.<\/p>\n

The book was presented on the night of this Friday, 19th, in one of the bookstores in the Portuguese capital, and at the end of the event, in exclusive statements to Inforpress, Ma\u0301rio Lu\u0301cio Sousa revealed the inspirations behind this work published by Dom Quixote publications.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was like that, suddenly, I was reading ‘100 years of solitude’ by Garcia Marques, and suddenly I had this feeling, what if this book never existed? It was from there that the idea came to write a book about a book so important that it disappears\u201d, explained the author<\/p>\n

In \u201cThe book that me wrote\u201d, Sousa shared the innovation he brings to the work, by making the book itself the protagonist of the plot, something different from his previous works, which explored historical themes.<\/p>\n

Ma\u0301rio Lu\u0301cio Sousa also described this work as \u201ccompletely open to imagination and poetry\u201d, in which he creates facts, revealing his need to explore his \u201cfertile imagination\u201d and highlighting the importance of poetry, love and laughter in his writing.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause poetry is what makes this world habitable\u201d, emphasized Ma\u0301rio Lu\u0301cio, adding that \u201clove is fundamental\u201d to guide human thoughts and actions, while laughter \u201cdistinguishes people from animals\u201d.<\/p>\n

When asked about the ability of books to change the world, he responded with conviction.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I didn’t believe it, I would be very ignorant, because the book is what changed the world\u201d, he said, arguing that books are guardians of human knowledge and essential for understanding history and humanity.<\/p>\n

Ma\u0301rio Lu\u0301cio Sousa also revealed that the book will be presented on May 2nd in Tarrafal, his hometown, and May 6th in the city of Praia, taking the opportunity to highlight the interest that the work has aroused and expressed his happiness with the public’s receptivity. , therefore anticipating enthusiasm for the next presentations already scheduled.<\/p>\n

In addition to \u201cThe book that wrote me\u201d, the author has published other novels, namely \u201cThe new testament\u201d, \u201cThe last moon of a big man\u201d, \u201cThe devil was my baker\u201d and \u201cBiography of the tongue\u201d.<\/p>\n

He is also the author of \u201cBirth of a World\u201d (poetry), \u201cUnder the Signs of Light\u201d (poetry), \u201cNever Again to Speak of Love\u201d (poetry), \u201cThirty Days of the Poorest Man in the World\u201d (fiction) and \u201cParallel Lives\u201d (fiction).<\/p>\n

In addition to being a writer, for whom he has already received several awards and distinctions, Ma\u0301rio Lu\u0301cio Sousa, who also served as Minister of Culture of Cape Verde between 2011 and 2026, is a singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist.<\/p>\n
