Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Citizens once again called for the implementation of the investments announced by the Government in the water and sanitation sectors in the city of Porto Novo, in Santo Anta\u0303o, highlighting the extension of the sewage network in this city.<\/p>\n

Approached by Inforpress, some residents once again asked for the implementation of the investments announced by the Government since 2019 in the areas of water and sanitation in the city of Porto Novo, complaining about the delay in implementing projects, with emphasis on the extension of the sewage network and expansion of the water distribution network.<\/p>\n

Inforpress found on site that sewage continues to leak into the sea and some septic tanks began to burst with the arrival of the hottest period, a situation that is worrying residents.<\/p>\n

In the second session of Parliament, this week, the Prime Minister, during the monthly debate with representatives, assured that the Government has already launched a tendency with a view to awarding the works planned for Santo Anta\u0303o within the scope of the water and sanitation project on this island.<\/p>\n

The mayor of Porto Novo, Ani\u0301bal Fonseca, said he believes that the investments planned for the municipality within the scope of the Santo Anta\u0303o water and sanitation project should begin \u201csoon\u201d, confirming the launch of the tender for the execution of the works.<\/p>\n

These are investments in the water and sewage network, as well as the installation of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), which will be starting up, within a short time, as part of the Santo Anta\u0303o water and sanitation project. , under the responsibility of the Government.<\/p>\n

These investments are highly anticipated by the people of Porto Novo who have been concerned about sewage leaks on the seafront of the city of Porto Novo and also with the deficiencies of the already obsolete water distribution network in this city.<\/p>\n

The sewage network installed more than two decades ago can only cover just 20 percent (%) of the population of this urban center, with more than ten thousand people.<\/p>\n

The Santo Anta\u0303o water and sanitation project foresees, in addition to expanding the sewage network in the city of Porto Novo, the installation of 12 kilometers of network, and also the installation of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).<\/p>\n

Still in sanitation, this project, worth around 1.2 billion escudos, financed by the Arab Bank for Development in Africa (Badea), foresees the construction of 200 bathrooms for vulnerable families, half of which have already been built.<\/p>\n
