Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Cape Verde Journalists’ Union Association (AJOC) promotes, on May 3rd, in the city of Praia, as part of World Press Freedom Day, a set of debates on the situation of journalism in Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

These debates precede the III edition of the Press Freedom Gala, where the winners of the National Journalism Award \u2013 PNJ for the year 2023 will be announced, which will take place at Espac\u0327o Hangar 7, on May 3rd, starting at 8:00 pm.<\/p>\n

The event will feature performances by Pincezito, Fatu\u0301 Djakite\u0301, Akysanna da Veiga and Ernestina Lopes.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Inforpress today, the president of AJOC, Geremias Furtado, presented a set of panels that are part of the program to mark World Press Freedom Day.<\/p>\n

The activities will begin at 8:30 am, at the Presidency of the Republic, with the press conference entitled “A press for the planet: journalism in the face of the environmental crisis”.<\/p>\n

The event will feature opening speeches by the ambassador of the United States of America, the ambassador of the European Union, and will be presided over by the President of the Republic.<\/p>\n

Then, there will be two panels, first: \u201cEcojournalism in Action: Challenges and Opportunities in Covering the Environmental Crisis\u201d, with Ricardo Monteiro, Nardi Sousa and Wlodziemierz Szymaniak as speakers.<\/p>\n

The second panel on \u201cEnvironmental Impact and Press Freedom: Overcoming Barriers to Information\u201d, will be led by Ethel Rodrigues, Joana Lopes and Paulo Ferreira.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, Geremias Furtado said, there will be the last panel, bringing a “very interesting” topic: “Journalism in Cape Verde \u2013 Where are we and where are we going?”, which has as speakers: Filomena Silva and Silvino Lopes E\u0301vora.<\/p>\n

“With this panel we want to create a space for debate to see how journalism is doing, the challenges, the opportunities, what also needs to be done to improve the practice of journalism in Cape Verde”, explained the president of AJOC.<\/p>\n
