Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Angolan Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) today promised to take action against the Angolan State for “denial of justice” to the four activists sentenced to seven months, with family members questioning the “silence” and “sensitivity” of the President of Angola.<\/p>\n

At a press conference held in Luanda where activists present shouted in unison \u201cfreedom now\u201d, the executive director of the Observatory for Social Cohesion and Justice (OCSJ), lawyer Zola Ba\u0302mbi, condemned the \u201cillegal arrest\u201d of the activists, promising a action against the State.<\/p>\n

\u201c The action against the State for denial of justice is legitimate, because rights were seriously violated, with trickery and a lack of responses to lawyers’ requests ,\u201d said Zola Ba\u0302mbi.<\/p>\n

Gilson Moreira da Silva \u201cTanaice Neutro\u201d, Adolfo Campos, Hermenegildo Andre\u0301 \u201cGildo das Ruas\u201d and Abraa\u0303o Pensador are the four activists arrested since September 2023, after being convicted of disobedience and resistance, following a demonstration in support of motorcycle taxi drivers.<\/p>\n

The current situation of the activists was presented at a press conference, an initiative of Friends of Angola, the Association of Women for Civil and Political Rights, the Mudei Movement, Kandera and the OCSJ.<\/p>\n

According to Zola Ba\u0302mbi, the activists, in a state of health that requires care, \u201cdesperate and the target of threats and attacks\u201d in jail, were subjected to an \u201cunfair trial and illegally arrested due to political will\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen freedom is deprived by political will, the purpose is to limit the space of civil society. This arrest aims to silence protesting voices, his arrest we can consider it as a private prison,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

And he denounced what he called the \u201ctricks\u201d recorded during the arrest and trial, saying that they were subjected to an \u201cunprecedented and visibly ordered\u201d summary trial in the ninth section of the Common Crimes Room of the Luanda District Court.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no trial, there was judicial lynching and theater to legitimize the arrest, because summary judgment takes place due to a flagrant crime, which was not the case. Even in court, there is no evidence that they attacked or disobeyed the agents\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cJustice was not served and they were just tried and convicted as part of a scheme\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

Teresa Cawanga, with her one-month-old baby on her lap, lamented, at the time, the arrest and the state of health of her husband, who did not see their fifth child born, considering that the family is experiencing immense difficulties in supporting itself, due to the absence of the father.<\/p>\n

Teresa, who fears for the life of her husband, who is ill after a hunger strike, also questioned the sensitivity of the Angolan President, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, asking for his intervention to free the \u201cunjustly imprisoned\u201d activists.<\/p>\n
