Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the Red Cross in Brava, Maria Coelho, considered today that the Local Council is \u201cquite firm\u201d, but stressed that the objective is to work so that it covers the entire island.<\/p>\n

To Inforpress, Maria Coelho said that there is a project by the municipality to create an extension in the parish of Nossa Senhora do Monte and that the Red Cross will be a partner, taking into account that the financial conditions, at the moment, only allow it to cover elderly people from New Sintra.<\/p>\n

The Red Cross on Brava Island has a Day Center called Dona Edith Gomes da Silva, which operates from Monday to Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment we have a total of 25 beneficiaries, however, some usually go to the center and others stay at home\u201d, he said, ensuring that those who stay at home also receive all the necessary treatments.<\/p>\n

According to this person in charge, the institution usually transports beneficiaries to the Health Department, if necessary, it also supports family members by donating diapers and with donations that the institution usually receives from volunteers, in other words, if necessary, the Red Cross has \u201copen arms \u201d for everyone in need.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this municipality there is a lot of prejudice in relation to the support of the institution, that is, people believe that whoever is a beneficiary of the institution is considered a poor person, but no, family members who are sometimes not at home all day can leave their elderly people in the center and are well looked after there\u201d, explained Maria Coelho.<\/p>\n

As further stated, in order not to let International Red Cross Day go unnoticed, there will be a parade today in the city of Nova Sinta, which this year has the motto \u201cKeeping humanity alive\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will later walk to the Miradouro and the remaining activities will be carried out on Saturday, the 11th, with a health fair, in partnership with the Ilha Brava Health Department, where we will carry out screenings and there will be a talk with psychologist Edoneia Teixeira on mental health and voluntary\u201d, he concluded.<\/p>\n
