Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The energy supplied to the 50 companies at MozParks, the largest Mozambican industrial park, in Maputo, will now be provided by the electricity grid, leaving the dependence on diesel generators, following a German donation of 20.8 million euros.<\/p>\n

\u201cMozParks is the first and largest industrial park in Mozambique and a prestigious project of the Mozambican Government. Its energy supply is now updated, reinforced and connected to the national electricity grid through a more reliable transmission network\u201d, says a note from the German Embassy in Maputo sent to Lusa, about the inauguration, today, of this project. electrification.<\/p>\n

It is recalled that the 50 companies currently operating in MozParks, with more than 10,000 workers, \u201chave depended heavily on burning diesel through diesel generators to meet their energy consumption needs\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis inefficient and expensive option had a high environmental impact and deterred companies from locating in the park\u201d, adds the German embassy.<\/p>\n

The electricity grid connection project, inaugurated today by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, and the German ambassador in Maputo, Ronald Muench, was implemented by Electricidade de Moc\u0327ambique (EDM) and \u201cfinanced by a donation of 20.8 million euros of German Cooperation\u201d, through the German Development Bank (KfW).<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon completion of the project, the number of companies based in the park and employment opportunities for the surrounding communities are expected to increase. MozParks plans to host more than 100 companies, which could create around 20,000 new jobs over the next 10 years. Furthermore, around 3,000 new customers in disadvantaged communities will have consistent and sustainable long-term access to energy in the Mavoco and Mahoche areas,\u201d the German embassy further states.<\/p>\n
