Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The mayor of Braganc\u0327a (Portugal) highlighted the \u201cimportant and determining\u201d role that the Polytechnic Institute of Braganc\u0327a (IPB) has played in bringing Portugal and Portuguese-speaking African countries closer together.<\/p>\n

At the moment, IPB welcomes students of more than 70 nationalities at its institution, in a total of 10,500, 2,500 of which are from Africa, the majority from Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP), including 1,200 Cape Verdeans, which represents the largest student community at IPB.<\/p>\n

Paulo Jorge Xavier made this statement within the scope of Semana d’A\u0301frica, a joint organization of IPB and the Association of African Students of Braganc\u0327a (AEAB), from the 20th to the 25th of May, within the scope of Africa Day, celebrated on the 25th of May.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to highlight the important and determining role that IPB has played in bringing our countries closer together, by establishing protocols, both with governments and universities, in order to attract young students, who end up taking up residence in this municipality, thus contributing way, to fill some gaps in terms of the needs of workers, with more or less qualifications\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

At the moment, IPB welcomes students of more than 70 nationalities at its institution, in a total of 10,500, 2,500 of which are from Africa, the majority from Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP), including 1,200 Cape Verdeans, which represents the largest student community at IPB.<\/p>\n

For these reasons, Paulo Jorge Almendra Xavier considered that this journey was justified, as a way of \u201cvaluing African culture, but also for the quality of integration of this community in the territory\u201d, maintaining that the region \u201cis a territory of inclusion\u201d , which cultivates fundamental values \u200b\u200bof democracy and believes in peace, friendship and freedom.<\/p>\n

Throughout the week, various scientific, artistic, sporting and debate activities were carried out, as well as dialogue with other cultures, such as the 1st Encontro de Escritores da Lusofonia (grA\u0300frica) which took place from 20 to 22 May, the 2nd Braganc\u0327a Regional Intercultural Festival, from the 22nd to the 23rd of May, and the I Jornadas AfroCie\u0302ncias, from the 23rd to the 24th of May.<\/p>\n

The President of the Republic, Jose\u0301 Maria Neves, was in Braganc\u0327a to preside over the opening of Africa Week, which took place on the 20th of May.<\/p>\n
