Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The sugar cane harvest and grog industrialization in the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Anta\u0303o, is in the final stretch and farmers believe they will be able to meet the deadline, despite the shortage of labor.<\/p>\n

The harvest of sugar cane in this municipality of Santo Anta\u0303o was, this year, conditioned by the lack of labor, but the farmers, approached by Inforpress, say they believe they will be able to meet the deadline stipulated by law for the harvest, which will until the 31st of May.<\/p>\n

This is the case of farmers in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, one of the main agricultural valleys in the municipality of Porto Novo, who assured that, despite the constraints encountered, such as the lack of workers and breakdowns in production units, they rule out the possibility of asking the Government the extension of the deadline for harvesting sugar cane and industrialization of grog.<\/p>\n

Graciano E\u0301vora, spokesperson for the producers, reaffirmed to Inforpress that it is possible to meet the deadline established by law for the sugar cane harvest and the industrialization of grog in this location.<\/p>\n

The period for the sugar cane harvest and grog industrialization begins on January 1st and ends on May 31st, in accordance with the legislation on the matter.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the municipality of Porto Novo, producers have been defending the anticipation of the date to December 1st, with the argument that, at that time, locally produced sugar cane has already reached the \u201cmaturation phase\u201d due to the climate.<\/p>\n
