Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Cape Verde today opened the country’s Internet domain (.cv) for registrations from anywhere in the world, with an eye on the global market for services linked to curriculum vitae and recruitment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe expectation is that this domain can serve all professionals\u201d on a global level, explained to Lusa Opeyemi Awoyemi, president of Olacv, a Cape Verdean company linked to Whogohost, from Nigeria, to which management of the domain was granted.<\/p>\n

The domain has the same acronym used in the most spoken languages \u200b\u200bin the world to refer to professional CVs and the expectation is that from now on addresses will be created on the Internet, by numerous services linked to CVs and professions, ending in \u201ccv\u201d.<\/p>\n

In this way, Cape Verde makes the most of a digital asset it has.<\/p>\n

‘.cv’ domains are for sale from 1,000 escudos (around 10 euros), through the olacv.com portal, which accepts different forms of payment.<\/p>\n

“[In a world with a workforce of 3.3 billion people], I don’t think any domain other than ‘.me’ has ever had as much potential as this,” said Awoyemi, a Nigerian entrepreneur who was part of the founding team of one of the main recruitment sites in Africa, Jobberman, and invests in other activities on the Internet.<\/p>\n

Currently, the ‘.cv’ domain has 3,500 registrations, mainly associated with entities based in Cape Verde, but the person responsible hopes to achieve exponential growth on a global level.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut work is needed and it won\u2019t happen from one year to the next: it will take time\u201d, he told Lusa.<\/p>\n

Among other aspects, the effort involves contacts with the largest domain registration companies in the world to include the Cape Verdean domain in the listings they provide to those looking for names for their online businesses or other websites.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also want to focus on the email service\u201d, that is, personal addresses \u201changing\u201d on domains ending in ‘.cv’, in addition to other services, which require guarantees of \u201csecurity and trust\u201d.<\/p>\n

Edna Oliveira, Minister of State Modernization and Public Administration of Cape Verde, registered a ‘.cv’ domain with her name during a demonstration at the launch ceremony held today.<\/p>\n

The governor promoted the idea of \u200b\u200bthe country as a \u201ccompetitive platform in the middle of the Atlantic\u201d in the digital area, exporting services.<\/p>\n

The primary server for the ‘.cv’ domain remains in Cape Verde, handed over to the Multisectoral Economic Regulatory Agency (ARME), which regulates the electronic communications sector.<\/p>\n
