Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Foreign aid to Cape Verde amounted to 1.5 billion escudos in the first quarter of this year, with the donation of equipment highlighted, according to the most recent data from the central bank.<\/p>\n

The information, consulted today by Lusa, reveals that the total value of aid is in line with the quarterly average of the last nine years and resulted mainly in donations in the form of currency, which represented 55% of the total.<\/p>\n

The remainder corresponded almost entirely to equipment donations, which were the ones that grew the most above average, reaching 663 million escudos in the first three months of the year.<\/p>\n

As for donors, partner governments delivered around one billion escudos to Cape Verde in the first quarter of this year, while supranational organizations were responsible for almost 500 million escudos.<\/p>\n

Non-governmental organizations donated 41 million escudos and private institutions 21 million escudos.<\/p>\n

Almost all external aid in the first quarter of this year was directed to the Government, with only 1% going to municipalities.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Finance, Olavo Correia, has argued that the country must \u201cstart learning to live without donations\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will still need it\u201d, but \u201cit will not remain forever\u201d, as the country develops, he said during the launch of the State Budget (OE) for 2024.<\/p>\n
