Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The President of Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe appointed, at the Government’s proposal, the former leader of the Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe Liberation Movement (MLSTP) Aure\u0301lio Martins as ambassador to Cape Verde, the Presidency of the Republic announced.<\/p>\n

According to a Facebook post from the Presidency of the Republic, Carlos Vila Nova signed the presidential decree on Friday appointing Aure\u0301lio Pires Quaresma Martins to, on a service commission, hold the position of extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe in the Republic of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

Aure\u0301lio Pires Quaresma Martins has a degree in International Relations from the Private University of Angola and was a deputy and twice – 2011 and 2015 to 2018 – president of the Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe Liberation Movement\/Social Democratic Party (MLSTP\/PSD), leader of Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 opposition.<\/p>\n

Aure\u0301lio Martins’ last term at the head of MLSTP\/PSD ended in controversy, having been expelled from the party and accused of treason, after having signed a document, with two other party leaders, one of them the current Minister of Defense and Administration, Jorge Amado and other deputies from the Independent Democratic Action (current party in Government), for the dismissal of the president of the Supreme Court of Justice.<\/p>\n

The Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 politician was also a candidate for the Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 presidential elections in 2011 and 2021, having been one of the opponents defeated by the current Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 President, Carlos Vila Nova.<\/p>\n

He was a journalist at Ra\u0301dio Nacional de Angola between 1991 and 2005 and is a consultant on business strategies and international relations.<\/p>\n
