Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Inforpress photojournalist Joa\u0303o Paulo Tavares will present the photography exhibition \u201cThe 100 Tenants of Cape Verde\u201d, on July 3, in Pawtucket (United States of America).<\/p>\n

The photographic exhibition \u201cThe 100 Tenants of Cape Verde\u201d is made up of several photographs and videos of people aged 100 or over telling their life stories.<\/p>\n

The project, according to the photojournalist, arose from the idea of \u200b\u200bpreserving and immortalizing the memories of centuries-old people who live in Cape Verde, for future generations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis exhibition is a way of not only honoring our centenarians, but also making the general public aware of the way of life of each centenarian, their challenges and desires, given that, in order to reach centenarian age , there are many stories and life paths that can inspire us and help us grow as men and women\u201d, he reports.<\/p>\n

The exhibition to be presented in the United States of America was sponsored by the Office of the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva.<\/p>\n

In the USA, the photojournalist has already had contact with some centenarians living in that country, namely Viriato Joa\u0303o Alves, from Brava Island with stories of his experience in Cape Verde, Angola and the United States of America; Dona Mana and Manuel Figueiredo, a Cape Verdean descendant of the island of Sa\u0303o Nicolau, who never knew the island of his parents, but who says he is proud of knowing how to speak Creole without knowing Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

The project, which was funded by the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, through the 2023 National Artistic Creation Promotion Notice, has already been presented in Praia, Ilha Brava and Sa\u0303o Filipe (Fogo), and in Portugal.<\/p>\n

To carry out the exhibition, which was presented in Praia in October 2023, Joa\u0303o Paulo Tavares had to visit almost all the islands of Cape Verde, with the exception of Sal, Boa Vista and Sa\u0303o Nicolau, to talk to the centenarians and make Photos.<\/p>\n
