Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The VIII UNTC-CS Congress takes place this Wednesday, March 9th, despite the opposing voices of the unions that are part of the Platform Unite and Rescue UNTC-CS, as well as a group of former leaders of the union central. Criticized, Joaquina Almeida points the finger at the management of J\u00falio Ascens\u00e3o Silva and promises to present documents. The latter challenges it, in turn, to present the accounts of its management of more than 30 years.<\/p>\n

The days leading up to the VIII Congress of the National Union of Trade Unions of Cape Verde \u2013 Trade Union Central (UNTC-CS), were marked by an atmosphere of tension and discord between the secretary general, Joaquina Almeida, and the Platform Unite and Rescue UNTC-CS , as well as with a group of former leaders, who asked for the suspension of the event.<\/p>\n

At stake are, above all, the “unnecessary and artificial internal conflicts” created and the impediment of participation in the congress, due to allegedly delayed quota, of members of national bodies (National Council, Disciplinary Council and Audit Committee of Accounts), and of , at least 10 of the most representative unions in the country, affiliated to UNTC-CS.<\/p>\n

The document’s signatories, including J\u00falio Ascens\u00e3o Silva (former secretary-general), asked that the Congress be suspended, to be held later, respecting the UNTC-CS statutes.<\/p>\n

The same attempt was made by the Platform Unite and Rescue UNTC-CS, but without success, since an injunction to prevent the holding of the congress should have been filed before the National Council Meeting, which scheduled the event.<\/p>\n

It remains now, according to the platform’s president, Eliseu Tavares, to challenge the congress, after it has taken place. Joaquina Almeida accuses Ascens\u00e3o Silva<\/p>\n

Faced with the request for cancellation of the congress, made by former leaders, the Secretary General of UNTC-CS, Joaquina Almeida, in statements on Tuesday morning, to RCV, promised to bring documents on the management of the former leader of the Trade Union Central, J\u00falio Ascens\u00e3o Silva, during his 30 years at the helm of the organization.<\/p>\n

Joaquina Almeida urged Ascens\u00e3o Silva to \u201ckeep quiet\u201d, instead of, as he said, stirring up riots within the union central, adding that the former leader missed the opportunity to remain silent, while waiting for the court\u2019s verdict on his management. of over 30 years.<\/p>\n

The accusation also extended to alleged attempts to influence the current management for their own benefit, and to have enjoyed \u201cthe good and the best\u201d of the trade union central.<\/p>\n
