Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>MpD MP Manuel Moura said today in Praia that Cape Verde has already taken \u201cgiant\u201d steps in the health sector, despite there being a long way to go.<\/p>\n

These considerations were made at a press conference to review the parliamentary proceedings of the 1st Ordinary Session of the National Assembly, which will take place from the 10th to the 12th of this month, with the highlight of this session being the progress made in the health sector, a topic indicated by the PAICV Parliamentary Group.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there is an area of \u200b\u200bgovernance that requires consensus on policy measures, it is the health sector. Cape Verde has already taken giant steps, and there is still a long way to go,\u201d he said, highlighting the Government\u2019s commitment to achieving national consensus to improve this sector in the country.<\/p>\n

As he mentioned, the National Health System has made \u201cimportant\u201d progress in recent years in terms of investment in infrastructure, medical-hospital equipment and human resources, namely, an increase in the number of doctors, nurses and technical staff, in addition to their training and qualifications.<\/p>\n

It also added the approval of the status of medical career personnel and nursing careers in central and regional hospitals, health centers and health posts, with an impact on reducing asymmetries and improving the quality of health service provision.<\/p>\n

\u201cA fee exemption regime was introduced. Pharmaceutical policy was improved and three new vaccines were introduced into the routine vaccination schedule: inactivated polio, yellow fever and HPV,\u201d he said, also pointing out progress in several private clinics that were licensed, investments resulting from the incentive system created.<\/p>\n

He continued, noting improvements in the consolidation of the National Institute of Public Health with the expansion of the network of public health laboratories, creating skills in the areas of virology and entomology and the creation of an Independent Regulatory Entity in Health.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he indicated a set of ongoing health infrastructures that will be implemented at government level, also ensuring continued investment in infrastructures, equipment, technologies, administrative modernization and computerization in the country’s health structures.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Government will mobilize national, foreign and diaspora investment to develop health and wellness tourism services, and will also proceed with the privatization of EMPROFAC,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

When asked about some of the demands made by healthcare professionals in this area, Manuel Moura said that the demands are \u201cfair\u201d, and that the Government will fully comply with what it signed with the unions and that a \u201cgreen light\u201d will be issued shortly.<\/p>\n

\u201cSoon, the Government will give the green light and all technicians, doctors and nurses will, in fact, be satisfied with their demands and with the position of the Ministry of Health\u201d, he stated.<\/p>\n

Regarding the proposed law that creates the Cape Verde Climate and Environmental Fund, he assured that this law brings \u201ca lot of novelty and peace of mind\u201d to Cape Verdeans, recalling that the world is going through a \u201cvery complicated\u201d situation due to the climate situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cCape Verde is taking preventive measures and with this bill it will certainly make its contribution and will make a valuable contribution so that we can, in fact, have sustainability in this regard.<\/p>\n
