Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The PAICV deputy elected by Santo Anta\u0303o Albertino Mota said on Tuesday that the residents of the ingrown communities of Figueiras and Ribeira Alta, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, Santo Anta\u0303o, feel abandoned both by local and central power.<\/b><\/p>\n

Albertino Mota, who was speaking to journalists on the balance of his visit to the isolated communities of Figueiras and Ribeira Alta, brought to light the situation he called \u201ccritical and worrying\u201d faced by these localities.<\/p>\n

The politician demonstrated the \u201cadverse conditions\u201d experienced by the residents, who, according to the same, fight daily against the lack of basic infrastructure and government support.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe situation is dramatic, because they are highly ingrown communities, which despite countless promises, still in the 21st century, do not have roads, safe ports, mobile network, internet,\u201d he listed.<\/p>\n

Albertino Mota stressed that, despite numerous promises over the years, these areas remain neglected by public policies, resulting in \u201cconditions of precarious living.\u201d<\/p>\n

The deputy stated that the social situation that is lived in these areas is \u201ccritical and worrying\u201d, and residents questioned \u201cwhere is the Government that says it has the people at the center of its policies\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cFigueiras and Ribeira Alta are invisible areas for the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Albertino Mota also said that the residents of these communities depend mainly on agriculture and the breeding of animals for subsistence, and face additional difficulties due to the poor agricultural year and the impacts of the pandemic.<\/p>\n

During the visit, the PAICV deputy elected by Santo Anta\u0303o said he noted that the lack of access to communities by land and sea has serious implications, such as the inability to transfer patients in emergencies and the interruption of basic services such as electricity.<\/p>\n

The local infrastructure, including the health post of Ribeira Alta in remodeling since September 2023, has also been cited as a critical point that requires immediate attention from the authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is imperative that the government and the city council take their responsibility to these communities, ensuring that they receive the essential services and the support they need to thrive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
