Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, announced that the Government will assess the country’s agricultural situation due to the lack of rainfall and only then present a mitigation plan.<\/p>\n

According to the Minister, if the accumulated amount of rainfall to date is analyzed and its distribution is \u201cin fact below\u201d what was expected, stressing that \u201cforecasts are forecasts\u201d.<\/p>\n

Gilberto Silva was speaking on Saturday, the 14th, in the town of Achada Baleia, moments before the inauguration of the first phase of the Water Mobilization Program for Agriculture in Sa\u0303o Domingos.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Government is prepared, but we need to make an adequate technical assessment and only then, based on the assessment, put the mitigation measures on the table for approval and then implementation\u201d, he reinforced.<\/p>\n

As for the Water Mobilization Program for Agriculture in Sa\u0303o Domingos, according to the Minister, it aims to treat seawater through reverse osmosis and treat wastewater for irrigation, thus mitigating water shortages.<\/p>\n

This strategy, he explained, is aligned with the eradication of poverty, zero hunger and sustainable agriculture, among other aspects. He also said that the Water Mobilization Program for Agriculture will directly benefit more than 200 people and indirectly 1,146 inhabitants in the localities of Bai\u0301a, Achada Baleia, Praia Baixo, Castelo Grande, Praia Formosa, Milho Branco, Variante and Nora. Minister Gilberto Silva also announced that the project is part of an initiative that also covers the municipalities of Maio, Boa Vista, Porto Novo, Sa\u0303o Vicente, Sa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o dos O\u0301rga\u0303os, Santa Cruz and Sa\u0303o Domingos, with funding from Hungary.<\/p>\n
