Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The EcoRai\u0301zes project, promoted by the Association for the Defense of Heritage in Me\u0301rtola, Portugal, is developing an environmental education program in schools on the island of Santo Anta\u0303o, Inforpress learned this Sunday.<\/p>\n

A note from this project explains that the environmental education program in schools has allowed children to learn about the importance of protecting the environment and biodiversity on the island of Santo Anta\u0303o, especially in protected areas.<\/p>\n

EcoRai\u0301zes is a project that aims to support and strengthen civil society as a promoter of sustainable tourism in the protected areas of Santo Anta\u0303o and Sa\u0303o Nicolau, as a factor in generating income for local communities.<\/p>\n

It also aims to contribute, in the long term, to environmental sustainability and to improving living conditions in Cape Verde, the note also states, according to which, as part of the program, students have been planting tree seedlings, assuming \u201ca commitment to caring for the environment and endemic species\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sa\u0303o Nicolau is another island that has benefited from this project, co-financed by the European Union and Portuguese cooperation through Camo\u0303es IP.<\/p>\n

Other partners include the municipal councils of Santo Anta\u0303o and Sa\u0303o Nicolau, the Association of Tour Operators of Sa\u0303o Nicolau, the Association of Women of the Eastern Plateau of Santo Anta\u0303o and the Higher Institute of Economic and Business Sciences.<\/p>\n
