Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The people of Porto Novo once again called this Saturday for the start of investments in improving the distribution network in the city of Porto Novo, which are planned within the scope of the Santo Anta\u0303o water and sanitation project.<\/p>\n

When approached by Inforpress, the residents insisted on the need to move forward with the investments, which include the rehabilitation and extension of the water distribution network in the city of Porto Novo, which were earmarked for September 2024. \u201cEvery day we ask about the start of the works, since Porto Novo needs a new water distribution network that reaches all the neighborhoods\u201d, said Jose\u0301 Fortes, according to whom the current network, in addition to not covering the higher areas, is already obsolete and is constantly breaking down.<\/p>\n

Antonio Silva, another resident, recalled that the works were put out to tender in September last year and that the contractor had three months to start work.<\/p>\n

“We are eagerly awaiting the realization of these investments. Porto Novo is in great need”, declared Maria Fortes.<\/p>\n

Porto Novo is expected to receive investments in water and sanitation by 2026, totaling more than 719 thousand contos, within the scope of the Santo Anta\u0303o water and sanitation project, co-financed by the Arab Bank for Development in Africa (Badea) and the Government of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

In terms of water supply, investments, which focus on the rehabilitation and expansion of the water distribution network in the city of Porto Novo, should begin this semester and have an execution period of 16 months.<\/p>\n

In a message addressed to residents, on the occasion of World Water Day, celebrated this year with a focus on preserving glaciers, the Porto Novo City Hall said that it is \u201can opportunity to reflect on fairer distribution and sustainable management\u201d of this natural resource.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy mobilizing resources for investments, the Porto Novo City Hall is focused on the task of mobilizing more water not only for agriculture, but above all in order to provide drinking water at home for all families,\u201d promised the city hall.<\/p>\n
