Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>At the ceremony, the president of the Municipal Chamber, Lu\u0301cia Garcia, emphasized the importance of this new space for the full exercise of the deliberative body’s functions.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, as we cut the ribbon on this building, we are not only inaugurating walls, but giving a dignified and permanent home to the voice of the residents and to the democratic oversight of our municipality. This is a recognition of the central role of the Assembly in the local democratic system,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Lu\u0301cia Garcia also highlighted that the building offers adequate conditions for the functioning of the permanent committees and for the work of the elected officials and the technical staff, reinforcing the autonomy and effectiveness of the institution.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocal democracy cannot wait. This is a sign of institutional maturity and recognition that the full exercise of our functions requires a dignified physical foundation,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was presided over by the Chinese ambassador to Cape Verde, Zhang Yang, and was also attended by several local and national authorities and diplomatic representatives.<\/p>\n

The president made a point of thanking the People’s Republic of China, represented by Ambassador Zhang Yang, for the cooperation partnership that has benefited not only national projects but also local authorities.<\/p>\n

In turn, the mayor, Euclides Cabral, highlighted the symbolism and democratic commitment, considering this a “decisive step in consolidating local power and democracy,” underlining the symbolic value of the new building.<\/p>\n

“This building is more than a physical structure. It is a space for dialogue, listening, and citizen participation. Here, projects are debated and decisions are made that shape the future of Sa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o dos O\u0301rga\u0303os,” he said.<\/p>\n

Cabral expressed his deep gratitude to the Chinese Embassy, \u200b\u200brecalling that the municipality has been a direct beneficiary of cooperation with this country, listing the Poila\u0303o dam and the Post-Harvest Center, investments that have contributed to the economic and social development of the region.<\/p>\n

The mayor also reinforced the municipal executive’s commitment to creating dignified working conditions for all elected officials and public servants, stating that “a functional environment is essential for an efficient local administration that serves the citizens.”<\/p>\n

From the municipal representatives, the leader of the PAICV, Suzete Moniz, described the inauguration as \u201ca significant gain\u201d for the autonomy of the body, since \u201cthis space dignifies the deputies and brings the population closer to local power.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope, in the future, to continue evolving towards a dedicated Assembly hall,\u201d she reinforced.<\/p>\n

Eduardo de Pina, from the MpD, emphasized that the new building \u201cgives greater dignity to the role of municipal elected officials,\u201d highlighting that \u201cit is important that representatives have a space where they can better listen to and serve the people.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the inauguration of this new headquarters, Sa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o dos O\u0301rga\u0303os takes a \u201cfirm step\u201d towards strengthening decentralization, transparency, and citizen participation, consolidating itself as \u201can example of institutional maturity in the Cape Verdean municipal landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n
