Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Minister Janine Le\u0301lis stated today that Cape Verde reaches 50 years of Independence with \u201cpride, consolidated freedom and strong institutions,\u201d thanks to the resilience of its people and the collective commitment to democracy and development.<\/p>\n

In her closing speech at the 50th anniversary celebrations, the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Parliamentary Affairs highlighted the country’s historical journey, marked by \u201csacrifice, unity and the ability to transform adversity into strength,\u201d emphasizing that no difficulty has jeopardized national sovereignty or the values \u200b\u200bof freedom and the rule of law.<\/p>\n

Janine Le\u0301lis highlighted the role of democratic institutions, respect for the separation of powers, and civic participation in consolidating the gains achieved over 34 years of democracy.<\/p>\n

However, she warned of the need for constant vigilance against potential threats to democracy.<\/p>\n

The Minister praised the contribution of the Bank of Cape Verde to the celebrations, with the launch of the commemorative 200 escudo coin, and thanked the municipalities, the diaspora, civil society, and international partners for the broad national and international mobilization that marked the festivities.<\/p>\n

According to her, the commemorations also served to reflect on future challenges, including reforms in justice, administrative modernization, environmental protection, and strengthening social and territorial cohesion, appealing for continued efforts to consolidate freedom and development in the coming decades.<\/p>\n

The administrator of the Bank of Cape Verde (BCV), Anto\u0301nia Lopes, stated that the issuance of the commemorative coin reaffirms the institution’s commitment to the Nation, not only as a guarantor of monetary and financial stability, but also as a guardian of historical memory.<\/p>\n

She explained that the coin is a “lasting symbol that transcends generations and bears witness to the country’s history,” with commemorative issues being true archives of national identity.<\/p>\n

Anto\u0301nia Lopes also highlighted that, in a context of digital transformation, the Central Bank of Cape Verde (BCV) envisions the future coexistence between physical currency and the central bank’s digital currency, ensuring innovation, financial inclusion, and monetary sovereignty.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Mayor of Sal Island, Ju\u0301lio Lopes, considered that the 50th anniversary of Independence represents a “major moment” of reflection on the path traveled, the challenges overcome, and the collective future of the Nation.<\/p>\n

He praised the courage of the Cape Verdean people, capable of transforming difficulties into resilience and scarcity into opportunities, and emphasized that the recent status as an upper-middle-income country constitutes international recognition, but also imposes greater responsibilities in terms of governance, rigor, and sustainability.<\/p>\n

The mayor also highlighted the symbolism of Sal Island hosting the closing of the national commemorations.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was marked by the official launch of the commemorative coins for the 50th anniversary of Independence, symbolizing sovereignty, historical memory, and the continuity of Cape Verde’s collective project.<\/p>\n
