Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The contract for the operation has already been signed between the IMP (Instituto Maritime and Ports) and the company that will carry out the work, in a ceremony presided over by the Minister of the Sea. This is an important intervention to reinforce maritime security and environmental protection in the bay.<\/p>\n

The Government of Cape Verde, through the Ministry of the Sea, will proceed with the removal of the ship ITZIAR II, which has been sunk since 2015 in the Porto Grande Bay, on the island of Sa\u0303o Vicente.<\/p>\n

The Minister of the Sea, Jorge Santos, stressed that the presence of sunken ships within the bay constitutes a factor that reduces navigability and represents risks to the safety of port operations.<\/p>\n

The Government, in coordination with the Maritime and Port Institute and ENAPOR (National Port Authority), decided to proceed with a project to remove submerged vessels that represent a danger or limit the normal functioning of the port.<\/p>\n

According to the Minister, the process will begin with the removal of the ITZIAR II, an industrial fishing vessel approximately 55 meters long, which has been sunk in the bay since 2015. This operation is part of a broader project to clean and restore navigability to the Porto Grande Bay.<\/p>\n

The contract for the execution of the works was signed with the company Desindava, which will carry out the operation in partnership with specialized foreign companies. The project is financed by the Ministry of the Sea, with the participation of ENAPOR, in a total investment estimated at around 33 million escudos.<\/p>\n

After the completion of the removal of the ITZIAR II, expected to take approximately three months, the Government intends to proceed with the removal of other sunken vessels, including the Leopard, located in the Gale\u0301 area.<\/p>\n
