Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System congratulated Cape Verde on Monday for adopting its first national anti-corruption strategy, highlighting the country’s continued commitment to public integrity, transparency, and good governance.<\/p>\n

Patr\u00edcia Portela de Sousa was speaking during the forum launching the first national strategy for the prevention and combating of corruption 2026-2029, a document aimed at strengthening the National Integrity System and protecting the country against current and future risks and challenges.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, she commended the institutions involved, such as the Court of Auditors, the Council for the Prevention of Corruption, and the Ministry of Justice, stressing that corruption constitutes a global challenge that affects the economic, social, and environmental development of countries and undermines trust in institutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe adoption of such an important strategic instrument demonstrates Cape Verde’s continued commitment to strengthening public integrity, transparency, and good governance,\u201d she argued.<\/p>\n

According to Patr\u00edcia Portela de Sousa, preventing and combating corruption are essential for just, inclusive, and resilient societies, aligning with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that corruption also, unfortunately, diverts resources that are essential for sustainable development, for the economic, social, and environmental development of countries, that is, for the people,\u201d she lamented, recalling that preventing and combating corruption are now recognized as central elements for just, inclusive, and resilient societies.<\/p>\n

The official emphasized that sustainable development depends on strong and transparent institutions and reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting the implementation of the strategy and promoting public policies that strengthen transparency, integrity, and good governance.<\/p>\n

The national strategy for preventing and combating corruption 2026-2029 is based on eight strategic lines, including the reform of the Council for the Prevention of Corruption and the launch of the National Transparency Portal.<\/p>\n

It also provides for the creation of an inter-institutional commission, risk prevention plans, reinforcement of codes of ethics and conduct, continuous training in integrity, and preventive education actions to promote ethical values \u200b\u200band critical thinking.<\/p>\n
