Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The symbolic collection box placed by the Monte Joana community in Boca de Abo\u0301bada to raise funds for a feasibility study of the access road was vandalized this week, after being installed on March 21st.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Inforpress, Francisco Lopes, a member of the community, expressed sadness over the incident, considering it to be “the mental weakness of someone” who went to the site in the early morning to break into the box.<\/p>\n

According to the same source, the incident became known on Wednesday, April 1st, around 6:00 AM, after he was called to the scene, describing the moment as shocking.<\/p>\n

“When I arrived, I didn’t even know how to react. It’s a sign of mental poverty for someone to go there with an iron bar and try to break open the box,” he stated.<\/p>\n

Francisco Lopes indicated that the box could contain approximately 10,000 escudos and added that the community has already filed a complaint with the police, hoping that the case will be clarified.<\/p>\n

Despite the act of vandalism, Francisco Lopes assured that the community will not give up on the initiative, reaffirming its determination to remain mobilized in the search for solutions that will enable road access to the locality.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe path is forward. We will not give up, we will continue with our demonstration. This time, we will create a bank account, which is safer,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

The Monte Joana community has been intensifying its mobilization around the construction of an access road, denouncing unfulfilled promises over the years and arguing that the absence of a road hinders local development.<\/p>\n

At the end of March, residents gathered in Boca de Abo\u0301bada to express their discontent and launch the symbolic money box initiative, also appealing for blank votes as a form of protest against the lack of concrete answers.<\/p>\n

At the time, Francisco Lopes, an emigrant in the Netherlands for 40 years, stated that the demand spans generations, emphasizing that the lack of a road hinders the flow of products, the settlement of the population, and the transport of construction materials.<\/p>\n

In January, the mayor of Ribeira Grande, Armindo da Luz, told Inforpress that the construction of the road to Monte Joana is a commitment, guaranteeing that he intends to ensure vehicle access by the end of his term, even if initially as a dirt road.<\/p>\n
