Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The ICCA delegation in Santiago Norte is promoting the “Blue April” campaign from today until Friday, April 24th, focusing on the prevention of child abuse, involving schools, families, and municipal committees from the six municipalities in the region.<\/p>\n

This information was given to Inforpress by the delegate of the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA), Jose\u0301 Varela, who explained that the initiative is part of a continuous awareness strategy and aims to alert society to the importance of protecting children, within the framework of the International Month for the Prevention of Child Abuse.<\/p>\n

During this period, the ICCA will carry out informational actions in schools, community sessions, and activities with local partners.<\/p>\n

According to the delegate, the ICCA has been called upon to intervene in several cases of abuse, some considered extreme, which reinforces the need to intensify prevention.<\/p>\n

He added that extreme situations have been addressed in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and other competent entities.<\/p>\n

According to the same source, the campaign also includes strong involvement from municipal committees, especially during a time marked by festivities in several municipalities. To this end, protection teams are being created to control the presence of minors in inappropriate environments and at inappropriate times.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Varela argued that responsibility should not fall solely on institutions, but also on families, who should more closely monitor their children. As an example, he suggested creating appropriate spaces and times for minors at festive events.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that Blue April is also a time to promote behavioral changes and strengthen collective awareness of children’s rights, in an initiative that seeks to encourage reporting and ensure that society sees the ICCA as an active partner in child protection.<\/p>\n

Under the motto “Growing with Love, Living without Violence,” the ICCA calls for a united effort to prevent risky situations and guarantee a safe and healthy environment for all children and adolescents in Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

The April Blue Campaign, dedicated to the prevention of child abuse, uses the Blue Ribbon as an international symbol of awareness and reinforces collective responsibility in protecting children, promoting awareness actions such as school activities, marches, and public campaigns.<\/p>\n

It is inspired by an initiative that emerged in 1989 in the United States, with the goal of raising awareness of violence, neglect, and abuse, advocating for a safe and loving environment for all children.<\/p>\n
