Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Women’s participation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Cape Verde has seen “exponential growth,” a result of initiatives encouraging women to enter the field, the co-founder of SheTech revealed today.<\/p>\n

According to Ruana Miranda, projects such as SheTech and Women in Tech have been instrumental in sparking the interest of young women in a sector traditionally dominated by men.<\/p>\n

“Sparking curiosity is our greatest mission,” she said, explaining that one of the primary barriers is not a lack of interest, but rather a lack of awareness regarding the opportunities available.<\/p>\n

Ruana Miranda affirmed that the team has been working in partnership with schools, conducting awareness-raising activities and engaging directly with female students.<\/p>\n

According to the official, a mentorship session dedicated to girls and young women\u2014held today as part of the sixth edition of the Cape Verde Internet Governance Forum (IGF-CV), organized by ARME\u2014involved 30 students.<\/p>\n

The aim is to foster critical thinking, creativity, and digital literacy, skills considered essential.<\/p>\n

Despite these advancements, Ruana Miranda acknowledged that significant gender inequality persists within the sector, noting that in Africa, data indicates that only about 20 percent of ICT professionals are women.<\/p>\n

According to the co-founder, SheTech\u2014which marks its one-year anniversary in June\u2014has been creating spaces regarded as safe and welcoming for women of various ages and experience levels to share their experiences.<\/p>\n

Currently, the initiative comprises a group of approximately 90 participants\u2014ranging from teenagers to women with careers spanning over 20 years\u2014and has organized workshops, open discussions, and training sessions.<\/p>\n

Among the activities already completed, she highlighted a training program for approximately 20 women conducted in the Euge\u0301nio Lima district of Praia.<\/p>\n
