Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Electricity Distribution Company (EDEC) has announced the end of scheduled power outages on the island, following the commissioning of a new backup generator at the Sa\u0303o Filipe Central Power Station.<\/p>\n

In a statement, EDEC indicated that the situation is expected to improve further throughout the week with the installation of a second generator, which will allow for increased reserve capacity and ensure greater stability in the power supply to the population.<\/p>\n

Despite this improvement, EDEC warns that isolated disruptions may occur during the equipment testing phase; to address any potential failures, teams from the Energy Production Company (EPEC) and EDEC itself will be on standby to carry out rapid interventions.<\/p>\n

Information gathered by Inforpress indicates that two generator sets, each with a capacity of 1,400 kW, have been leased, one of which is already operational.<\/p>\n

Alongside this newly commissioned unit, one of the two higher-capacity units\u2014which has a maximum output of 1,600 kW\u2014is currently operational; however, as it has not yet undergone maintenance, it is currently producing approximately 900 kW.<\/p>\n

A specialized Portuguese team is currently on-site working to restore the second 1,600 kW unit; once that unit is operational, the other unit\u2014which possesses similar specifications\u2014will be taken offline for maintenance.<\/p>\n

The two highest-capacity generators currently in use at the Joa\u0303o Pinto Central Power Station in Sa\u0303o Filipe\u2014which supplies power to the entire island\u2014have been in place since the plant began operations following its inauguration in January 2016. Having already accumulated over a decade of service, they require regular technical maintenance.<\/p>\n

With these reinforcements and ongoing maintenance work, the company aims to ensure greater reliability in the electricity supply on the island of Fogo, particularly during the current festive period\u2014marking the Sa\u0303o Filipe Municipality and Flag Day celebrations\u2014when energy consumption is at its peak.<\/p>\n
