Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The first edition of the “Reino da Confeitaria e Pastelaria” (Realm of Confectionery and Pastry) Fair kicked off today in Assomada, aiming to foster the sharing of experiences, showcase creative work, and elevate the standing of the confectionery and pastry arts on the island of Santiago.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Inforpress, Melocy E\u0301vora, President of the “Reino da Confeitaria e Pastelaria” Association, explained that the initiative seeks to create an inclusive space for women\u2014both those with and without formal training in the field\u2014enabling them to display their products, exchange knowledge, and develop their skills.<\/p>\n

According to E\u0301vora, the fair brings together participants from various parts of Santiago Island, highlighting a diverse array of products ranging from cakes for weddings and baptisms to other confectionery options, all available to the general public.<\/p>\n

For her part, vendor Meyre Dalva expressed her satisfaction with the staging of the event, noting that the initiative represents a valuable opportunity to showcase her work, exchange experiences, and foster interaction among professionals in the sector.<\/p>\n

She further added that expectations for the fair are high, with hopes for a strong turnout from the public and positive results for all participants.<\/p>\n

Melocy E\u0301vora indicated that the event is taking place today (Friday) and Saturday, serving as a “mini-laboratory” for future editions; this allows the organizing committee to evaluate the proceedings and refine their approach for upcoming gatherings.<\/p>\n

The association plans to take the fair to other municipalities across the island, and a second edition is already scheduled for approximately three months from now\u2014likely to be held in Tarrafal.<\/p>\n

The President also underscored the initiative’s importance in empowering women\u2014particularly those without formal training\u2014by encouraging them to build confidence and present their products to the public, thereby reinforcing the message that the quality of one’s work does not depend solely on academic credentials.<\/p>\n

The fair is held in partnership with the Santa Catarina Municipal Government and various other officials\u2014including support from local community agents\u2014and also features recreational activities for children, making the event accessible and enjoyable for families.<\/p>\n

Through this initiative, the organizers hope to boost the confectionery and pastry sector on Santiago Island, while simultaneously promoting female entrepreneurship and the local culinary culture.<\/p>\n
