Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>On Friday, the Ministry of Health launched a nationwide awareness campaign across Brazil regarding the importance of vaccination, with activities taking place at health centers, schools, daycare facilities, and venues frequented by the elderly.<\/p>\n

This initiative is part of African Vaccination Week 2026, which runs from April 24 to 30 under the slogan “Vaccines work at all ages,” and aims to strengthen health systems and increase vaccination coverage in the region.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Inforpress, Ivanilda Santos, coordinator of the Expanded Program on Immunization (PAV), explained that this regional initiative\u2014coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO)\u2014aims to highlight vaccination as an essential lifelong intervention, promote health literacy among the general public, bolster public confidence in vaccines, and contribute to increased vaccination coverage across all of the country’s islands and municipalities.<\/p>\n

According to Santos, Cabo Verde is once again marking this occasion with public awareness activities focused on the population, emphasizing the importance of immunization at every stage of the life cycle\u2014thereby countering the misconception that vaccines are intended solely for children.<\/p>\n

In this regard, she explained that the campaign seeks to provide information on the vaccination schedule spanning from pregnancy through old age, covering infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.<\/p>\n

The initiative also includes promoting vaccines recently introduced in the country, such as those against rotavirus, the PCV-13 pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, and the hexavalent vaccine.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, this campaign aims to address the issue of missed vaccinations\u2014particularly among children who begin their immunization series but fail to complete the full schedule\u2014as well as to combat misinformation and reinforce public trust in vaccines.<\/p>\n

Ivanilda Santos highlighted the elimination of measles and rubella as key achievements attained in the country regarding vaccination\u2014results stemming from campaigns carried out with the active involvement of both health professionals and the general public. To sustain these positive vaccination results in the country, the official in charge appealed for continued adherence to vaccination, emphasizing the need to avoid falling behind on the vaccination schedule and encouraging the updating of overdue vaccinations.<\/p>\n

To ensure access in the more isolated and vulnerable areas of the islands, the official stated that the Ministry of Health has been investing in opening new vaccination posts, installing cold chain infrastructure, and deploying mobile brigades to deliver health services to hard-to-reach communities.<\/p>\n

The coordinator of the Expanded Program on Immunization took the opportunity to reiterate the appeal for parents, guardians, and the general public to embrace vaccination, highlighting that \u201cvaccinating is an act of love, fundamental for preventing preventable diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n

The campaign is supported by partners such as the WHO and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which are collaborating both technically and financially on the scheduled activities, set to run until May 7.<\/p>\n
