Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The National Police Regional Command in S\u00e3o Vicente hosted, this Saturday, the ceremony for the conferral of ranks and the reception of 27 new officers\u2014personnel who, according to the Minister of Internal Administration, \u201cmust remain attentive and vigilant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the island of Sal and the city of Praia, it was today S\u00e3o Vicente\u2019s turn to welcome the new officers who will reinforce security on the island. Comprising a total of 27 officers, this group includes 16 graduates from the latest training cohort\u2014the 14th such training initiative\u2014while the remaining 11 are active-duty officers transferred from other municipalities.<\/p>\n

During his address at the ceremony, the Minister of Internal Administration, Paulo Rocha, underscored the weight of bearing the badge\u2014a symbol embodying the activities, duties, and authority of the National Police.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that you will be active and proactive officers, that you will fulfill the mission and adhere to the established procedures of the National Police, and that you will aspire to a long career\u2014much like those upon whom we conferred new ranks today as they transitioned to new posts,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

He also urged them to remain \u201cattentive, vigilant, and well-integrated\u201d within a police force that must keep pace with the social, cultural, and economic dynamics of the island.<\/p>\n

For his part, the National Director of the National Police, Jorge Humberto Andrade, addressed his remarks to the new entrants in this profession \u201cwhose nobility is renowned.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough the degree of difficulty involved is significant, the role remains deeply rewarding\u2014provided that we commit ourselves and dedicate our bodies and souls to the mission of protecting life and liberty, and to caring for others,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Jorge Humberto Andrade emphasized that police officers must serve with \u201cethics, responsibility, integrity, and respect for human rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBe firm in your service; however, firmness is not synonymous with aggression, and certainly not with brutality. Firmness harmonizes with courtesy and humanizes one\u2019s approach,\u201d he asserted. Representing the 16 newly appointed officers\u2014who now become Second-Class Agents\u2014Fredwilson Ferreira emphasized that being a police officer means understanding that authority is built through example, and that force must be guided by legality, conscience, and integrity.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay the commitment undertaken today be enduring; may this mission be carried out with honor and responsibility; and may every step taken in this police career contribute to public safety and peace,\u201d urged Fredwilson Ferreira.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, ranks were also conferred upon officers advancing to the positions of Principal Agent and Principal Sub-Chief\u2014a career progression that the Minister of Internal Administration, Paulo Rocha, deemed crucial for \u201ccreating opportunities, and for bolstering motivation and *esprit de corps*.\u201d<\/p>\n
