Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Carla Guimar, a physician at the Cha\u0303 de Alecrim Health Center, emphasized this Friday the need to bolster preventive efforts, taking into account the socioeconomic impact of chronic diseases on families and communities.<\/p>\n

Guimar was speaking to the press during a health fair held in the Madeiralzinho area, under the motto “Health Beyond Four Walls.”<\/p>\n

According to Guimar, this initiative is part of the health facility’s activity plan, which aims to bring services closer to the population and raise awareness regarding the importance of disease prevention and health promotion.<\/p>\n

The physician highlighted that these initiatives also allow for a better understanding of the communities and the identification of at-risk areas, thereby facilitating more targeted interventions.<\/p>\n

This is because, she noted, chronic diseases represent a significant burden on families and society; therefore, she concluded, a focus on prevention is fundamental.<\/p>\n

“We are aware of the impact these diseases have on public health\u2014and, above all, on the socioeconomic front\u2014which is why it is crucial to take action before they emerge,” she added.<\/p>\n

In Guimar’s view, primary healthcare is not limited to medical consultations; rather, it should be grounded in prevention and the promotion of healthy habits.<\/p>\n

“We believe that a more informed community is a community with greater health literacy\u2014and one that is better equipped to take care of itself. For this reason, we want to bring healthcare closer to our communities, providing the tools people need to better manage their health,” she explained.<\/p>\n

The fair features the participation of partners such as VerdeFam and the Sa\u0303o Vicente Diabetes Association, which are offering various activities\u2014including screenings for high blood pressure and diabetes. These are considered “silent diseases,” often linked to hereditary factors and lifestyle choices.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, they are providing flu vaccinations and screenings for sexually transmitted diseases\u2014specifically syphilis and hepatitis B\u2014with the aim of promoting early diagnosis and reducing complications. During the activity, the professionals also intend to address topics such as vector-borne diseases, raising public awareness regarding preventive measures against the mosquitoes responsible for malaria and dengue.<\/p>\n
