Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>On Saturday evening in Mindelo, the Movement for Democracy (MpD) presented its list of candidates for the Sa\u0303o Vicente electoral district, appealing for continuity in governance and highlighting the value of the \u201cwork accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event took place at a city hotel and was attended by party leaders as well as the Mayor of Sa\u0303o Vicente, Augusto Neves.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, the Mayor was the first to speak, advocating for continued support for Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva and emphasizing his efforts in overcoming difficulties faced by the island\u2014including Tropical Storm Erin, which struck on August 11, 2025.<\/p>\n

The MpD\u2019s lead candidate for Sa\u0303o Vicente, Paulo Rocha, stated that the island is \u201cexperiencing a different energy,\u201d arguing that the current government has played a key role in lifting Sa\u0303o Vicente out of stagnation.<\/p>\n

\u201cHope has a name, and that name is continuity with Ulisses Correia e Silva\u2014to refine what is working, correct what needs correcting, and continue striving for more and better for both Sa\u0303o Vicente and Cabo Verde,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Paulo Rocha also highlighted the investments made on the island, asserting that this continuity \u201cis not merely rhetoric, but tangible work accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the national front, the event featured an address by the MpD Secretary-General, Agostinho Lopes, who called for confidence in the current administration and for the consolidation of the results achieved thus far.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened was simple: we transitioned from a country growing at 0.5% to a country growing at over 7%,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In the legislative elections scheduled for May 17, five political parties are vying for the 72 seats in the National Assembly, which are distributed across 13 electoral districts\u2014ten within the country and three representing the diaspora.<\/p>\n

In the previous legislative elections, held on April 18, 2021, the MpD secured an absolute majority, electing 38 deputies, followed by the PAICV with 30 seats and the UCID with four.<\/p>\n
