Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>On Saturday evening in Nova Sintra, PAICV President Francisco Carvalho presented the party’s proposals for the island of Brava, focusing on the transport and health sectors\u2014areas deemed priorities by the political force.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Inforpress, Francisco Carvalho stated that the transport issue would be resolved within the first 30 days of his term, through the introduction of a vessel that would begin docking overnight daily at the Port of Furna, thereby ensuring greater regularity in maritime connections.<\/p>\n

In the health sector, the PAICV leader advocated for the introduction of specialized medical consultations on the island, emphasizing that this measure would improve the population’s access to medical care.<\/p>\n

Another concern raised relates to the development of the primary sector\u2014specifically fishing, agriculture, and livestock farming\u2014areas that, according to the official, have been “abandoned.” He accused the Ministry of Rural Development of inaction.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the party proposes a revitalization of rural development, with a specific focus on these sectors, including the promotion of specialized training programs designed to boost the profitability of these activities.<\/p>\n

The PAICV candidate for Prime Minister in the May 17 elections also highlighted the critical importance of access to water, deeming it an essential prerequisite for the sustainable development of the primary sector.<\/p>\n

Francisco Carvalho also drew attention to the plight of the island’s youth, asserting that the lack of security and stability within the labor market has driven many young people to leave both the island and the country in search of better opportunities.<\/p>\n

“We must create incentives\u2014specifically through technical, university-level, and vocational training programs\u2014as these are fundamental to meeting the demands of the labor market,” he concluded.<\/p>\n

In the legislative elections scheduled for May 17, five parties\u2014PAICV, MpD, UCID, PTS, and PP\u2014are competing for the 72 seats in the National Assembly, distributed across 13 electoral districts: ten within the country and three representing the diaspora. In the last legislative elections, held on April 18, 2021, the MpD won an absolute majority, electing 38 deputies, followed by the PAICV with 30 and the UCID with four.<\/p>\n
