To Inforpress in Lisbon, Ana Josefa Cardoso considered that the officialization of the Cabo Verdean language [Creole] \u201cis not a threat\u201d to the Portuguese language for the place it occupies, that is, the two languages have occupied \u201cdifferent places\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut what we are looking for is a balance to promote real bilingualism both in statutory terms and in terms of use in communication in different contexts. There is a need to care for and develop both languages. None of them are going to steal the other\u2019s place. The two languages will continue to cohabit and this cohabitation will be so much healthier, when each of them is better learned and dominated in its different aspects\u201d, she told.<\/p>\n
