Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Agostinho Neto University Hospital announced this Friday, the successful performance of the first immunohistochemistry trials in Cabo Verde, after the installation of a molecular biology laboratory with a view to improving cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n

At a press conference held today, the coordinator of the National Cancer Program in Cabo Verde, Carla Barbosa, said that improving cancer diagnosis and treatment has been the essential pillars for the approach of cancer patients in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis study has been done using foreign countries, namely Portugal. The patients had so far funded and done the tests out, but from now on we are working to validate this study in the hospital, so that our patients, diagnosed with breast cancer, have an appropriate treatment\u201d, she explains.<\/p>\n

The principal researcher from the molecular biology laboratory implementation project at HUAN, P\u00e2mela Borges, said that this project, funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, aims to support and promote not only breast cancer diagnosis here in Cabo Verde, but also to foster basic research, but with the possibility of extending it to more types of cancer.<\/p>\n
