Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Government has just awarded the concession of an airport public service to support civil aviation to the company VINCI Airports SAS. This decision was published in the Official Bulletin n\u00ba 44, Series I, this Wednesday, May 4th.<\/p>\n

According to Decree-Law No. 14\/2022, the granting of the public airport service concession to support civil aviation is approved at Am\u00edlcar Cabral International Airport, on the island of Sal, at Praia International Airport \u2013 Nelson Mandela, on the island of Santiago, at Ces\u00e1ria \u00c9vora International Airport, on S\u00e3o Vicente Island, at Aristides Pereira International Airport, on Boa Vista Island, at Pregui\u00e7a Airport, on S\u00e3o Nicolau Island, at Maio Airport and at S\u00e3o Filipe Airport, on Fogo Island , to the company VINCI Airports SAS, which must set up a company governed by Cape Verdean law, with the specific purpose of concluding the concession contract and pursuing the object of the concession under the terms of the proposal presented.<\/p>\n

Concession contract<\/p>\n

Likewise, the assets currently allocated to the airport activity of Empresa Nacional de Aeroportos e Seguran\u00e7a A\u00e9rea, SA (ASA, SA) and necessary for the continuation of the concession are transferred to the concessionaire, under the terms established in the concession contract.<\/p>\n

Also in accordance with the aforementioned Decree-law, between the date of signature of the concession contract and the date on which the parties confirm in writing that all the conditions precedent set out in the said contract are fulfilled or have been waived by the counterparty, corresponding to the date From the beginning of the concession, ASA continues to operate the airports and airfields, under the terms established in the concession contract, for the day-to-day management of the activity, \u201cin accordance with the law and good practices\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Government Justifies this concession of the public airport service to support civil aviation to private investors, with the aim of expanding and modernizing the Cape Verdean airport network and, at the same time, promoting tourism in the country, reinforcing the competitive position of national airports for the benefit of the national economy and of passengers and users of airport infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the air transport sector, the Government intends to clearly define a public service provision policy in this sector, prioritizing the connection between all the islands and the country with the diaspora and the routes that are the object of public service\u201d, emphasizes the diploma.<\/p>\n

Also according to the justification note of that Decree-law, the Government initiated and developed a selection procedure aimed at awarding the concession of public airport service to support civil aviation, having invited VINCI Airports SAS (VINCI Airports) to present, initially, an expression of interest, and, later, a binding proposal, in accordance with the provisions of n. 9 of article 4 of Decree-Law No. 52\/2019, of 5 December, and with the Joint Order of the Ministers of Finance and Tourism and Transport No. 133 of 19 December 2019.<\/p>\n
