Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Portuguese cement company \u2013 Cimpor \u2013 presented to the Government of Cape Verde an investment plan of 48 million euros (about 5,500,000 Cape Verdean escudos), which includes a proposal for the concession of the exploitation of pozzolans on the island of Santo Ant\u00e3o.<\/p>\n

In a press release that reached our newsroom, the company, present in Cape Verde for 17 years, advances that it intends to diversify its investment portfolio for management and port concession, as well as for the production of renewable energy.<\/p>\n

In this context, he explains, who presented to the Government an investment plan of 48 million euros (about 5,500,000 Cape Verdean escudos) \u201cwith the aim of strengthening the strategic partnership\u201d that the company has developed in the country.<\/p>\n

This investment plan includes a proposal for obtaining the concession for the exploration of pozzolans on the island of Santo Ant\u00e3o, which, in the company’s view, is “a crucial investment” for the development of its activity, as well as for the growth of the local economy.<\/p>\n

Vital for company growth<\/p>\n

Lu\u00eds Fernandes, CEO of Cimpor Portugal and Cape Verde, reinforces that this concession \u201cis vital for Cimpor’s growth strategy in Cape Verde\u201d. This also takes into account the environmental challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cCimpor is developing in all the geographies where it operates a policy of accelerated reduction of CO2 emissions associated with cement. The use of pozzolans, among other raw materials, in cement production is one of the fundamental measures to achieve the intended objectives\u201d, they argue.<\/p>\n

Jo\u00e3o Brito e Cunha, Director of Cimpor in Cape Verde, explains that \u201cthese investments follow the reinforcement of our company’s commitment to the country, namely in new areas of the Cape Verdean economy\u201d.<\/p>\n

Also, he adds, they have already shown interest in diversifying investments, \u201cboth in the management and in the port concession, and in the production of renewable energy\u201d, concludes the official.<\/p>\n

Profile<\/p>\n

Present in Cape Verde since 2005, Cimpor is a leader in the cement, glue cement and steel market. The production of concrete and aggregates is also a priority, with a series of investments exceeding 6 million euros having been carried out in the installation of two new crushing plants, and two new concrete plants on the islands of Santiago and Sal.<\/p>\n

Cimpor is now owned by one of the main economic groups in Turkey (Oyak Group) and, as they advance, shortly after the acquisition of Cimpor, the president of Oyak Cimento, Suat \u00c7albiyik met with the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia da Silva , having conveyed the company’s interest in diversifying its business investments in Cape Verde.<\/p>\n
