Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Olavo Correia will attend the 57th annual meeting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, which will take place in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, from the 23rd to the 27th of this month.<\/p>\n

The news is advanced by the Government in a statement, adding that during the event, the also Minister of Business Development and Digital Economy, participated in the statutory meetings of the Group, namely, the Council of Governors, and the Joint Steering Committee, in addition to other events.<\/p>\n

According to the same source, this year\u2019s edition, which will have a hybrid format, marks the return to face-to-face sessions after the Covid 19 pandemic, and will have as its central theme \u201cAchieving Climate Resilience and a Fair Energy Transition for Africa\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, African leaders will have the opportunity to discuss the nature of the support they need from global development partners, as well as the estimated cost of building resilience and a just energy transition for their economies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year’s theme aligns with preparations for the United Nations global climate summit (COP27), scheduled for Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, in November 2022, and should highlight Africa’s need to increase investment in other forms of funding to accelerate climate adaptation efforts,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n

In Accra, among other important activities, the deputy prime minister is also expected to participate in the 48th Annual Meeting of the Governance Council of the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional arm of the AfDB Group.<\/p>\n

At the event, the government officials representing the 54 African countries and 27 non-regional member countries of the institution must also maintain a high-level dialogue with the president of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi A. Adesina, and his management team.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 2022 event will also provide an opportunity to take stock of the continent\u2019s response to the Covid 19 pandemic and discuss how to increase vaccination against the pandemic, the impacts of the war on the continent\u2019s economy and the growing threat posed by climate change\u201d, read in the note.<\/p>\n

On this trip, Olavo Correia will be accompanied by a delegation that includes the Secretary of State and Business Development and the deputy administrator of ADB, Adalgisa Vaz, the governor of Banco de Cabo Verde, \u00d3scar Santos, the national director of Planning, Gilson Pina.<\/p>\n

The coordinator of the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), Nuno Gomes, and a specialist technician from the DNP Resource Mobilization Service, Albertina Costa, are also part of the team that will accompany the deputy prime minister on this mission.<\/p>\n
