Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>UNICEF representative in Cabo Verde, Steven Ursino, said Wednesday in Mindelo that the extreme and absolute poverty which directly impacts the realization of children\u2019s rights and violence are challenges still persist in the country.<\/p>\n

Steven Ursino, the United Nations International Emergency Fund for Children (UNICEF) representative, was speaking at the main event of the World Children\u2019s Day celebrations, June 1, at the Jotamont Academy Auditorium, which was attended by 250 children and adolescents from the island of S\u00e3o Vicente.<\/p>\n

According to Steven Ursino, Cabo Verde has already made great progress on child protection, particularly in the field of health, birth registration, education, social protection, efforts to consolidate child-friendly justice, carry out legislative reforms, create more structures for children, among others.<\/p>\n

However, he stressed, there are still challenges such as extreme and absolute poverty, which directly impact the realization of the children\u2019s rights and violence against the child, and he argued that we must continue to invest in child protection in Cabo Verde.<\/p>\n
