Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Presidency of the Republic promotes, on June 7th and 8th, in S\u00e3o Vicente, a colloquium on \u201cThe Oceans\u201d, under the motto \u201cProtect the Oceans, Preserve Life\u201d.<\/p>\n

With the initiative, Pal\u00e1cio do Plat\u00f4 is associated with the \u201cDecade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development \u2013 \u200b\u200b2021 to 2030\u201d, declared by the United Nations.<\/p>\n

The objective is to place the Ocean on the global agenda and promote a common framework that guarantees the execution of concerted actions, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n

The Mindelo Colloquium, according to the Presidency of the Republic, will comprise a cycle of four thematic conferences, framed in the 10 challenges of the Ocean Decade.<\/p>\n

It also includes exhibitions on best practices in the preservation of marine and coastal biodiversity, workshops on techniques for the reuse of marine litter and a film session related to the oceans.<\/p>\n

The opening of the event takes place at 9:00 am, at the University of Mindelo, in an act to be presided over by the head of state, Jos\u00e9 Maria Neves. The first day will be closed by the Minister of the Sea, Abra\u00e3o Vicente, at 16:00, at the University of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

The second day will be filled with a \u201cmajor national campaign\u201d to clean up the Seafront, focusing on sea beaches, coordinated throughout the country by the Red Cross of Cape Verde and the UNICV, in S\u00e3o Vicente.<\/p>\n

The Decade of the Oceans, which takes place under the global motto \u201cThe science we need for the ocean we want\u201d, aims to \u201craise awareness among public, private, international organizations and civil society about this important natural resource, mobilizing and bringing together all efforts for their health and sustainability\u201d, as emphasized by the presidency of the Republic.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy associating himself with the initiative, the Head of State thus endorses the challenges underlying the actions of the Decade of the Oceans, as the way to put the issue on the agenda of the country, made up 99% by sea, in order to raise awareness of society civil society and other actors, particularly about the opportunities and challenges of our ocean\u201d, he explains.<\/p>\n
