Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Jos\u00e9 Maria Neves, appointed on Tuesday, from the People\u2019s Palace, in S\u00e3o Vicente, five personalities to serve as members of the Council of the Republic, being among these four women.<\/p>\n

The list includes the names of Eneida Cristina Lima Gomes, Gabriel Ant\u00f3nio Monteiro Fernandes, Maria Ilena Rocha, Vera Helena Pires Almeida da Cruz and Zenaida Baptista Costa.<\/p>\n

The Head of State decided, according to the same source, to appoint four women, among the five personalities that the Constitution gives him the power to appoint, \u201cin order to ensure some gender balance in the auxiliary body of the President of the Republic\u201d, given that at this time all members of the Council of the Republic ex-officio are men.<\/p>\n

The Council of the Republic, a political advisory body for the Head of State, is composed of the President of the National Assembly; the Prime Minister; the president of the Constitutional Court; the Ombudsman; the president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council.<\/p>\n
