Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The data are from the survey on Tourist Expenditure and Satisfaction (IGST) – 2021 revealed today by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The report also shows that 74.4% of tourists who visited Cape Verde in 2021 did so in the \u201cAll Inclusive\u201d package, showing a reduction in this system of 13 percentage points compared to 2019.<\/p>\n

Of the 229,263 tourists who visited Cape Verde in 2021, 86.1% traveled in a package tour, and of these, 74.4% traveled in the all-inclusive system, according to INE data.<\/p>\n

Compared to 2019, the data show that tourists who traveled in package tours recorded a decrease of around 2.0 percentage points (pp).<\/p>\n

However, the travel format in the all-inclusive system (all inclusive) shows a considerable decrease compared to 2019, having decreased by 13 percentage points.<\/p>\n

Accommodation weighs more<\/p>\n

According to the same source, in general, tourists spent more on accommodation (45.9%) and food and beverages (16.2%).<\/p>\n

However, if we specify tourists who did not travel in a package tour, spending on accommodation has a greater weight (93.8%) than spending on food and beverages (1.9%).<\/p>\n

On the other hand, tourists who traveled in package tours showed a significant percentage of spending on handicrafts (29.6%) and food and drink (26.9%).<\/p>\n

Regarding the daily expenditure of tourists, the data show that, in general terms, this expenditure is approximately 3,433 Cape Verdean escudos (ECV), with tourists who did not travel in the package have higher expenses (on average 4,891 ECV per day) .<\/p>\n

French spend more<\/p>\n

The data also reveal that tourists residing in France have the highest average daily expenditure, at 11,966 ECV, followed by residents of the United States, with a daily expenditure of 10,668 ECV. With the lowest daily expenditure, 627 ECV, those residing in Italy appear.<\/p>\n

When looking at the average daily expenditure only for tourists who did not stay in a private house, are not citizens and do not have Cape Verdean ancestry, there is a decrease in the average daily expenditure of approximately 676 ECV. In this segment, those residing in Spain and the United States have higher daily expenses, 4,812 and 4,763 ECV, respectively. Italy has the lowest daily expenditure (549 ECV).<\/p>\n

Visits in high season predominate<\/p>\n

It is recalled that in 2021, the population of tourists who visited Cape Verde was estimated at around 229,263, translating into a decrease of 71.5% compared to 2019, which was 804,061 tourists. A reduction, as we know, impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that 37.6% of the 229,263 tourists visited the country in the low season and 62.4% in the high season.<\/p>\n

Sal Airport, where more tourists arrive<\/p>\n

In terms of frequency between the four international airports, Am\u00edlcar Cabral International Airport, on the island of Sal, was the most popular, followed by Aristides Pereira International Airport (AIAP) in Boa Vista.<\/p>\n

According to the results, the AIAP maintained the trend registered in previous years, as the high season presented a higher contribution than the low season.<\/p>\n

Despite the low frequency, according to INE, Ces\u00e1ria \u00c9vora International Airport (AICE) showed the same trend, however, the variation was zero.<\/p>\n

Portugal led in 2021<\/p>\n

With regard to outbound destinations, Portugal led in 2021 with 19.1% of entries, followed by Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, respectively, with 14.6%, 12.8% and 9.4%.<\/p>\n

In 2021, the country with the lowest percentage weight in the emission of tourists to Cape Verde was Brazil, representing only 0.1% of the total number of tourists received in Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

In year-on-year terms, of all the countries that presented negative changes, Brazil (-96.4), Italy (-95.9%), the United Kingdom (-89.6%) and France (-84 .5%).<\/p>\n
