Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Jos\u00e9 Maria Neves, underlined, this Tuesday, in the city of Praia, that the 5th of July is the \u201cbiggest day of the historic contemporary politics of Cape Verde\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the day when we take our destinies into our own hands and begin to write our history ourselves\u201d, justified Jos\u00e9 Maria Neves, after laying the wreath at the Am\u00edlcar Cabral Memorial, as part of the celebrations of the 47th anniversary of the National Independence.<\/p>\n

For the nation’s highest magistrate, it is also a day to value Cape Verdean history and memory, since, as he defended, \u201conly those who value memory can build a better future\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our wish for all Cape Verdeans and Cape Verdeans\u201d, said Jos\u00e9 Maria Neves, who, for the first time, laid the wreath at the Am\u00edlcar Cabral Memorial as President of the Republic.<\/p>\n

National Independence took place on July 5, 1975 and was proclaimed by the then president of the Popular National Assembly, Ab\u00edlio Duarte, now deceased, taking place at the V\u00e1rzea Stadium, in Praia.<\/p>\n

The 5th of July 1975 is today considered by Cape Verdeans the greatest date and an \u201cimportant and historic\u201d milestone for the archipelago.<\/p>\n
