Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva reiterated this Monday that there is no room for any salary increase, especially in this context in which the war in Ukraine has \u201csignificantly worsened\u201d the country’s crisis situation.<\/p>\n

Ulisses Correia e Silva was speaking to journalists after a joint statement with the director of World Bank Operations, who is looking to Cape Verde, when urged to react to statements by unions demanding a salary increase to restore workers’ purchasing power. .<\/p>\n

\u201cThe unions will understand that, even on behalf of those who do not have any income, we have to concentrate our stabilization efforts in order to avoid them being even more pressured by the effects of the crisis. I’m talking about people without a job, people in rural areas who are suffering the effects of drought, families with problems\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

Ulisses Correia e Silva explained that the Government’s focus, at the moment, should be on protection and added that, when the country is in a position to update the minimum wage, to update the salary, the executive will do so.<\/p>\n

The president of the Cape Verdean Confederation of Free Trade Unions (CCSL), Jos\u00e9 Manuel Vaz, asked the Government on Sunday to convene the Council for Social Dialogue (CCS) to discuss with the social partners the issue of salary increases, taking into account the exponential increase in the prices of products and services in Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

The prime minister added that the Government will indeed convene a meeting of the CCS, within the framework of the programmed agenda, but the salary issue will not be part of the matters to be dealt with, taking into account the current context of crisis.<\/p>\n
