Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The mayor of Santa Cruz said that this municipality in Santiago, which today celebrates the day of its patron saint, S\u00e3o Tiago Maior, is becoming \u201cmore resilient, secure and developed\u201d, despite the crises.<\/p>\n

Carlos Silva took stock of the current reality of that county, which completed, on March 29, 51 years of its creation.<\/p>\n

The mayor highlighted the main gains achieved in recent years, as a result of investments made, in progress and several other \u201cstructuring projects\u201d already outlined, either by the Government, the municipality and the private sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m suspicious to take stock [of the development of the municipality of Santa Cruz], but the performance, dynamics and commitment of all of us in the development of Santa Cruz is remarkable. I believe that Santa Cruz has already entered the development route\u201d, the mayor said, in statements to the press.<\/p>\n

investments<\/p>\n

To support his statement, Carlos Silva recalled that, at the moment, the works for the rehabilitation\/construction of the Ribeira dos Picos road are underway, in an investment of more than 362 million escudos, and other \u201cstructuring projects\u201d already outlined, such as the dossier of the Justino Lopes company, purchase and construction center for the commercial port.<\/p>\n

He added that several other projects are being worked on, which aim to provide Santa Cruz, considered the largest agricultural municipality on this island, with \u201cthe ability to stand on its own feet\u201d.<\/p>\n

Few hotel units<\/p>\n

On the other hand, despite the dynamics and investments made, and in progress, in the economic, cultural and tourist sector, the head of the municipal executive admitted that the municipality is facing a lack of beds, which, according to him, is due to the few hotel units existing ones, which are not able to respond to the demands.<\/p>\n

To make up for the lack of beds, Carlos Silva proposed converting emigrants’ homes into accommodation, and attracting more investors in the hotel sector.<\/p>\n

To mark the festivities of its patron saint, S\u00e3o Tiago Maior, a range of cultural, sporting and recreational activities has been programmed, which have been running since June.<\/p>\n

The festivities will have their high point this Monday, the 25th, with a procession and mass in honor of the local patron saint.<\/p>\n
