Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The National Data Protection Commission (CNPD) does not authorize the processing of personal data, resulting from the use of GPS in State vehicles used by those who have the right to use it for personal purposes.<\/p>\n

The CNPD opinion also indicates that this device should not be used in vehicles used and driven by those who are \u201cauthorized\u201d by a member of the Government who directs, supervises or supervises the corresponding services, for personal purposes.<\/p>\n

The CNPD states, on the other hand, that the Directorate-General for Heritage and Public Procurement (DGPCP) \u201ccannot use\u201d GPS in State vehicles for the purpose of monitoring the professional performance of the official\/driver.<\/p>\n

The CNPD argues that the installation of GPS in vehicles by the DGPCP allows this state body not only to determine the location of the vehicle, but also to track the movements of workers\/drivers or vehicle occupants and, consequently, to know their driving habits. routes, length of stay and trace their behavioral profiles.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis information translates into special personal data,\u201d the CNPD concluded.<\/p>\n

The decision of the National Data Protection Commission follows a request for an opinion by the DGPCP on the placement of GPS in State vehicles, with a view to \u201cpreventing waste and deviations in the use of State assets\u201d.<\/p>\n

The DGPCP argued that it intended to \u201cincrease the efficiency and inspection\u201d of the fleet of state vehicles, \u201clocate the vehicle in case of theft and control the accident rate\u201d.<\/p>\n

GPS is a technology that allows the geographic location of an object or a person with great precision.<\/p>\n

In December last year, the Deputy Prime Minister, Olavo Correia, promised that the Government would introduce GPS in State vehicles, for a \u201cgreater control\u201d of goods and production of results and the public interest, within the framework of rigor and transparency.<\/p>\n
