Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Cape Verdean Music Society (SCM) inaugurated, this Thursday, its delegation in S\u00e3o Vicente, which will also serve the islands of Santo Ant\u00e3o and S\u00e3o Nicolau. The new delegation responds to the \u201clegitimate desires and requests of members, authors, composers, music artists, partners, event promoters and all those who live music\u201d.<\/p>\n

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Culture, Abra\u00e3o Vicente, for whom this step will consolidate Mindelo as the center of culture and creative industries in the country.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, \u201cit is very important\u201d to have an SCM headquarters in S\u00e3o Vicente, \u201cwhere authors can meet, defend their rights and feel that the defense of copyright actually exists\u201d.<\/p>\n

In turn, the mayor of S\u00e3o Vicente, Augusto Neves, underlined the symbolism of opening the space in August, a month in which \u201cits first two weeks\u201d represent \u201chigh moments of music in S\u00e3o Vicente\u201d.<\/p>\n

Realization of a dream<\/p>\n

For the president of SCM, Solange Cesarovna, the society’s delegation in S\u00e3o Vicente is the realization of a dream that has been nurtured for a long time.<\/p>\n

But, also, he added, it is the fulfillment of a vision of the general assembly and of the direction of the SCM to respond to the desires and legitimate requests of the members authors, composers, music artists, partners using music, promoters of events and of all those who live the music.<\/p>\n

\u201cOpening the SCM delegation at the School of Music has everything to do with protecting authors’ rights, it has everything to do with valuing the profession of composer and musician. Without a school, we will not be able to have more and better artistic production, because it is in this school that we find our references\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
