Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Micaela Rodrigues, representative of the South Santiago region, was one of the highlights of the Track Athletics Championship, held last weekend in Praia. The sprinter, born on the island of Fogo, was the winner in four disciplines: in the 100 and 200 meters, in the long jump and in the mixed 4\u00d7100 meters relay .<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio de Cabo Verde (RCV), Micaela Rodrigues highlighted the victory achieved in the 100 meters race, which made her the fastest woman in Cabo Verde.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a spectacular race because it corresponded to the effort I had been putting in in practice for a long time. I am very happy to have achieved this result\u201d, said the athlete that, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, she did not stop training and was always focused on the objective of winning.<\/p>\n

Micaela Rodrigues, considers that she still has a lot to give to Cape Verdean athletics. \u201cI’m training to improve even more and put Cape Verde up there\u201d, she promised.<\/p>\n

Sprinter Eskilson Nascimento, from the island of Boa Vista, won first place in the 100 and 200 meters, while Artur Silva, sprinter from the island of Sa\u0303o Vicente, is the new national middle-distance champion in the 1500 and 3000 meters.In the mixed relay 4 x 100 meters, Santiago Sul won the gold medal, followed by the islands of Sal (silver) and Boa Vista (bronze).<\/p>\n

The island of Sal, which was already making a name for itself in the national athletics competitions, had total dominance in the men’s and women’s 400 meters disciplines, whose gold medals were snatched by Adriano Almeida and Melanie do Rosa\u0301rio, respectively.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the athlete Daira Carvalho, only 12 years old, also stood out among the delegation from Sal, who achieved an unprecedented feat in the competition, winning five medals, four of which were gold and one silver.<\/p>\n

It is recalled that the delegation from Ilha do Sal is national champion for the 10th consecutive time, collecting more medals in the recently concluded Cape Verde Track Athletics Championship.<\/p>\n

The Cape Verde Track Athletics Championship took place on Saturday, 8th and Sunday, 10th of October, at the National Stadium in Achada de Sa\u0303o Filipe, Praia, involving approximately 80 of the best athletes in Cape Verdean athletics today, in representation of the various affiliated regional associations.<\/p>\n

Organized by the Cape Verdean Athletics Federation, the event was held in the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500 meters (men and women) and 4\u00d7100 meters (mixed) disciplines.<\/p>\n\r\n
