Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The hotels Riu Cabo Verde, Riu Funana, Riu Palace Santa Maria, Riu Palace Boavista and Riu Touareg obtained the Travelife certificate, which recognizes the commitment to sustainability in the tourism sector, this hotel group advanced today. The exception is Karamboa, which was in the process of being renovated during the audit, that is, behind closed doors.<\/p>\n

According to a press release that reached our editorial office, this distinction attests that RIU Hotels & Resorts establishments in Cape Verde comply with Travelife’s international standards and “adjust to good practices in environmental and social management”, fulfilling the “objectives” of Corporate Social Responsibility of the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cA decade ago, the RIU Group chose the Travelife seal to audit its commitment to sustainability,\u201d the company says.<\/p>\n

Since then, they add, the conditions that hotels must meet to obtain this certificate have changed, becoming increasingly \u201cstricter and with more specific measures\u201d, in order to achieve \u201cexcellence\u201d in sustainability.<\/p>\n

With the exception of Karamboa (which was being remodeled in Boa Vista), all other resorts of the group in Cape Verde \u201cfulfill\u201d the necessary requirements to receive recognition, attests the company.<\/p>\n

Good habits<\/p>\n

Among the required requirements are good practices in organizational policies, human rights, working relationships and conditions, environment, compliance with legislation, local development and commitment to communities and customers.<\/p>\n

In order to obtain the Travelife certificate, they explain, data on water and energy consumption in hotels and the control of waste and hazardous substances are first compiled.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, the Corporate Social Responsibility and Human Resources department are responsible for writing codes of ethics and technical reports and, later, the external auditors carry out on-site inspections that are recorded in the report prepared by Travelife.<\/p>\n

For this reason, the only hotel that could not obtain the Travelife certificate was the Riu Karamboa, as it was already undergoing renovations during the audit. However, once the improvements are complete, they will form part of the certificate. In this way, it will be added to the other establishments in the chain that have already obtained the Travelife certificate, most of them owned by hotels.<\/p>\n
